Colleagues,
I'm wondering if there's any advantages installing Sql Server in a clustered environment versus installing it stand alone on a given server ?
Is anyone aware of advantages/disadvantages of either approach ?
Does Sql Server 2000 run better, smoother, faster if it's installed, configured stand alone on a server versus Clustered ?
Please share your thoughts and experiences.

Your question could be rephrased to ask whether Enterprise Edition is better than Standard Edition.
You could see better performance because only SQL Server Enterprise Edition can be installed on a cluster and that edition can use a greater number of processors and more memory than Standard Edition.
Clustering, also known as failover clustering, affects availability rather than performance. SQL Server installed on a multi-node cluster can failover to a surviving node if one node fails.
The biggest drawback of using Enterprise Edition is cost. Enterprise retails for $20,000 per processor while Standard sells for $5000 per processor.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I certainly appreciate your input. I thought the Clustered configuration was desirable but just checking to see what other folks thought about it.

I think you have to made mirror (software or hardware) on SQLSERVER partions instead of clustering .. it is very cheap.
