SQL Server 2000 Autogrow Failure

    Does anyone know of a known reason why a SQL 2000 server would have trouble with autogrow once the new allocation exceeded 1 GB. I get the impression it may just be timing out...but the I/O system in this server is plenty beefy for what it is doing.

    no guarantees but two possibilities come to mind -

    is autogrow set at a percentage or an amount in MB? If a percentage autogrow will have more work to do as the database grows.

    Maybe it just happens to be trying to grow at an inopportune busy time for the server. Increase the size of the database manually yourself at a quite time.
