SQL Performance Counter

  • All,

I am trying to set up performance counters on one of our servers and I just saw that the NT performance counters for sql server is not there.  I know there is a way you can add these counters and I know I did that in the past.  I just forgot...

On the buffer cache hit ratio, I am trying to set up a SQL Server Alert when it goes below 90%.  When I set up the alert, I can't do it because it does the ratio differently and I can't use "." or decimal points or percentage signs, etc...

I am trying to upgrade my memory to 4GB.  Is there any windows registry that I need to set for it to work?

    Thanks,

    Raj

  • Raj,

When you install SQL Server you can choose to install the SQL Performance Counters.  They are included by default.

I have seen the counters 'disappear' on a machine running Windows 2003.  A reboot brought them back.

BTW, running the Performance Monitor will create some overhead on your system.  For this reason I'm not sure that having Performance Monitor constantly running so you can set up an alert is such a good idea.  You really only need to run Performance Monitor when you are experiencing problems.
