Important notes for using Microsoft Update

•When you use Microsoft Update to install SQL Server 2005 SP4, the installation is unattended unless components are clustered. If components are clustered, you must follow the prompts to complete the installation.

•Microsoft Update upgrades all instances of SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2005 SP4. For example, if you have two instances of SQL Server 2005 that are running on the computer, both instances are upgraded to SQL Server 2005 SP4.

The SQL Server 2005 Express Edition updates are shown when you do an express scan and are available as an automatic update. The other editions of SQL Server are available as a custom update or as an optional update.

•For more information about Microsoft Update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/about.aspx

    So, what does that mean?

Well, the instructions, as they are, are here:

    http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-us

My personal work PC has this blocked by policy. Run that in 'express' mode, and it should pop up with SP4.
