Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a product that can manage your SQL environment from an Android powered phone? I thought I found one through Idera, but it is not out yet, will have only read capabilities and will not be a standalone product. Thanks for your help.

You may find redgate's SQL Monitor useful. As per this page, it supports "most mobile" devices. It should support Android devices as well.

Our Android app can manage backups, provide performance data / storage data and monitor services.
Search for SQL Centre Pro on Android Market.

Or set up a VPN connection from your Android phone and manage through that pretty easily.
Without paying a subscription cost for "SQL Center Pro".
(Honestly, was the first post just a lead-in for the post about the product? This is the second ad I've seen in the forums in the last few minutes on this exact product. That makes this look like a "set up" and "follow-through" marketing ploy.)

It's a good product that's been in development for over 5 years, and does what you'd need to do. We've followed forum etiquette correctly to attempt to advertise a commercial product. Howefer, as it competes indirectly with some of Red Gate's products, the first post was removed so we responded to your request as it is also an Android product. Future developments already in the pipeline include a full T-SQL query engine to allow you to write queries on the Android device, manage server objects and other functionality. For the cost we are asking, this is a highly specified product.
I expect this post to be removed pretty shortly too, so you needn't worry about the advertising aspect, it won;t be around long enough to be considered such.
What users of these forums should note, though, is that they are not without their own bias in favour of Red Gate's products. We know they are excellent because we use a few of them ourselves. However, they haven't yet come up with a product to manage backups etc. from an Android phone.

I'm not "worried" about the advertising aspects of it. Just curious about the tactics used.
There are times when I reference Red Gate competitors rather directly in my posts (most commonly ApexSQL, since they were the first DBA tool-suite that I used). I'm not a Red Gate employee, so I just recommend what I consider best for the job at hand.
The other post I saw on your product was simply and unpaid ad, and then immediately after seeing that, I saw this other post, and it made me curious if the first post on this thread was a deliberate "set up". I've done marketing work before, and I'm always curious about things like that. It seems like it could be a clever tactic, if used correctly and subtly. Kind of shady and ethically questionable, if used on a competitor's forum (since they're paying the support costs and such), but clever nonetheless. It just made me wonder if that was the case.

No, there was nothing surreptitious about it. We're just a small development company that has released a product we've been using for our clients for years. We post on forums regularly to help other users, and we're well funded so the income isn't our motivation. In fact, I'd be surprised if more than a few dozen users take up our software.
We're not marketers, but we do need to get our products out into the open and forums are usually our best route. We try and post where appropriate. Unfortunately we don't always get it right, and if people don't like what we have done we're prepared to remove posts and desist any future posts. We have never been spammers or used a scatter gun approach and I'm sorry if anyone thinks that's the case.
