We don't have to setup a DSN on the workstations so it's not ODBC. There is no Java involved in the system so it's not JDBC. The application is developed in CS.NET and it communicates with the database through the Microsoft SQL Native Client. Does that mean it's SNAC?
Unfortunately I can't provide a connection string. The connection details are specified in a custom XML file that the client reads. I guess it builds the connection string dynamically. That is why I have contacted the developer (to find out exactly what it is that the client app is doing internally).

That's correct. SNAC = SQL Server Native Client
