SQL Mail in a cluster?

  • Has anyone implemented SQL Mail in a clustered environment? If so, what are some problems (if any).

I have not actually attempted, but I hear it is buggy.

  • I have SQL MAIL on two cluster servers and it works fine. The profile names should be identical on each node of a cluster keep it working even in failover.

  • Thank you for the reply.

I think the solution you provide is for a active/active model, which will have 2 sql servers with the load balancing.

    How about the active/passive model?

We have the active/passive clustering model, where one server actually has sql server installed and running, while the other server is just sitting there with nothing installed, waiting for the cluster administrator to "failover" the sql server service.

  • The only thing you need to worry about is making sure the domain account you are using is the same on both machines active/passive active/active doesn't come into play.

  • We have an active/active cluster and our mail client is buggy. Will work sometimes and not others. I think that this is more because we are currently not using exchange. Other than that install the default client on each machine, when it fails over to the passive side, it will still be looking for the default mail client.
