I recently wanted to do something similar. The following site provides great information on how to do this with an activex task, which can of course be scheduled. (Thanks to the Authors)

This will allow you to select data from a table to be inserted into the email, which can either be sent at regular intervals or when the table/data is updated.

Another solution that I haven't seen posted here is to use the xp_smtp_sendmail extended sp. You can download the dll from http://sqldev.net/xp/xpsmtp.htm. All of the documentation for installation is provided there.
