Hello and help.
I am having problems with SQL tasks and stored procedures that use XP_sendmail. Occasionally the task is failing to complete and send the e mail. This leaves the task at a status of running (sometimes for days) and seems to result in SQL mail not being available for any other tasks. Nothing appears to be getting logged to explain what the problem is.
Stopping and restarting SQL server agent sometimes fixes the problem (with a restart of SQL mail) but often a complete reboot of the server is required.
This is happening on SQL7 and SQL2000 servers
Any thoughts??

One thing I found was that an instability in the Exchange server being used can cause this sort of knock-on effect. It was particularly noticeable with the older versions of SQL Server (6.5, 7). I haven't noticed it so much with SQL2000, but that may be because our Exchange environment is a bit more stable!
