I remember, this is not the first time I am suggesting you to find the information on Google and post issues / errors when encountered rather than you ask such questions and some one replies with a link to an article / blog.

  • SQL Server 2000, SQL Mail, requires a MAPI compliant client be installed on the server (i.e. Outlook, not Outlook Express).

Can hang causing emails not to go, and (in my experience) the only way we could clear it was reboot the server. Restarting SQL Server would sometimes clear the problem, but usually a reboot was required. Partially resolved by rebooting the server on a scheduled basis, weekly iirc.

Actually setting up, not too difficult. The instruction are readily availble in the BOL (you know, the SQL Server Help System).

  • Curious I am, have you even bothered looking in Books Online before jumping out here on SSC? Lot of good information is available in there, even if it can be difficult at times to find it. BOL does have a search function that could help.

  • There are detailed instructions online at MSDN.com for setting this up, and the pros and cons of doing so.

In my own experience, it was a major pain and other solutions worked much better.

I agree fully. An alternative is to upgrade to SQL 2005. Another is to use a homegrown mailer that employs smtp.

  • IIRC, Collaboration Data Objects is the way many people went for sending emails from SQL Server 2000. Not sure how much info BOL has on CDO, but just Google Collaboration Data Objects and I'm sure you will find plenty of possible links to useful (and not so useful) information.

Can you help where to find Books Online ... and how many books are available... 😛 😛

Merry Christmas Lynn ... hope you had a great time last weekend with your daughter being back for Christmas.

Merry Christmas Lynn ... hope you had a great time last weekend with your daughter being back for Christmas.

It's nice having her home. She took us out to dinner last night. She was craving Chipolte (there isn't one in San Angilo TX apparently).

She leaves on January 1st. Not looking forward to that at the moment.

Merry Christmas, Bru, and a Happy New Year too!
