SQL License key required

    Hi,

    It's very strange---I used to use a SQL2K CD to install SQL without requiring any license key, but now, all the sudden it asks for key no. Are there any MS security patches doing this kind of things?

    As far as I know they all require a license key.  Disks can be burned with a key if there is an arrangement with MS for your company... and there may have been some trial software that didn't need a key.  But software must be licenses, even if the license is free.

    I think you are right. What I don't understand is that why it didn't ask the key before...

    It didn't ask the key before because before you installed only sql tools, but when you try to install full sql server it promts for key.

    There are some versions of media that will not prompt for a key. As indicated, these are obtained that way by your organization... usually the media comes from a reseller like ASAP.
