Morning all,
I've inherited a small (on prem) SQL estate. I'm a DBA, used to looking at one issue at a time as opposed to a big overall strategy. I've been asked to provide a future planning doc for everything we would like to achieve in the next 3 years. Just wanted to pick your brains on the kind of things I should think about. I have some ideas that I don't have the right terminology for & am sure there will be lots I haven't thought about. So far I have:
Obsolescence planning & upgrades OS & SQL.
Automation & standardisation of new installs.
Review of backup & restore strategies.
I'd like to intro some sort of SQL estate monitoring software / performance / capacity threshold scripting or software.
I'd like to make much more use of reporting / expose the data where applicable to the users.
Consider encryption & data governance.
Ideas / criticisms / comments gratefully accepted.
Thanks
