Yep that's right MJ even that BOL has toooo much information about every detail, better to start from here in SSC, then something from tutorials and finally from BOL ( Books OnLine )!
Have nice learning!

teh middle one is nice, but i can't imagine why all the videos are integrated into a forum. why no RSS or podcast ability?

Hi,
RSS is there in that site but only for Active Topics. Anyways so many videos at one place is nice and quick to refer. Like "Apple a day..." we can follow "Video a day..."
Since it is a forum, we can expect lot of contributors like you sharing the videos they know there so that everyone will get benefits...

When I became a DBA overnight because the main DBA was fired, the book I read that was really helpful was SQL Server 2000 for Experienced DBAs by Brian Knight. The books I'm reading now about SS 2005 are Inside MS SQL Server 2005: The Storage Engine by Kalen Delaney and Professional SQL Server 2005 Performance Tuning by Wrox Press. There's a lot to learn and you just have to dig in and start!
A few good websites (besides this one, of course! ):
http://www.sql-server-performance.com/articles/dba/main.aspx
http://vyaskn.tripod.com/scripting_permissions_in_sql_server_2005.htm
http://www.mssqltips.com/webcastlist.asp
Videos that are really helpful
http://www.jumpstarttv.com/channels/SQL.aspx
Good luck!

Another suggestion is to look at the DBA cert books. Not to study for an exam, but because some of the better cert books give you detail by detail how to do certain things and why (or why not) you should do them.
Sybex has the best "beginner" cert books, IMHO.
