I have an interesting problem that I hope somebody can answer:
I have SQL 2005 standard and have successfully configured the database email option, tested by using both the GUI and the Transact SQL commands. I also reconfigured the SQL agent to use the database email.
After creating a backup maintenance plan, I reviewed the properties of the SQL Job and attempted to setup notification via email and nothing appears in the email drop down.
I reapplied SP2, rebooted the server, recreated the maintenance plan and I still have no luck. Does anybody know what I am missing?

Have you set up an operator to use that email address?
The email addresses you select in the drop down from the job alerts are only a list of operators.
You have to configure the operator to use a email address.
