My Apologies, Sql Server 2000 (80)
I assumed that i was using Management Studio, but connecting to a DB on the SQL2000 server

If the code is going to have to run under SQL 2000, then FOR XML isn't an option. At least you have a solution which is satisfactory for your purposes.

Now, wait a minute... concatenation is usually a mistake. What is this for (ie, business reasons other than "it's a requirement") and why do you need to do it on the server side? I ask only because there may be a better way lurking in the corner if we knew more about the business reasons.
