SQL connectivity

  • Morning all,

I have a strange issue where one of my SQL servers refuses connections on its hostname and ocassionally on the IP. I am fairly experienced when it comes to SQL and can not work this out.

The server just suddenly refuses connections of any type even rebooting the server which is far from ideal does not work. The strange thing is it will just start working shortly after it goes off its not a consistent time some times it's minutes other times it's an hour.

Just can't work it out, could it be something to do with comma and wider dns/domain issue?

Anyone heard of anything like this or point me in a good direction?

    Sam

  • Could you please help with more inputs

    1. does it happen when you try to connect a new session in a fine morning or it happens when you are in the middle of a work.

    2. post the exact error message you are getting.

    3. was the instance configured for remote connections ?

    4. Have you checked the SQL services when you get the error immediately?.

    Thanks,

    Bala

  • What other roles is this server involved in? Domain controller, file server?

Is SQL Server optimised on your Windows server?
