I'm going through Access 2010 Inside/Out, and only found out recently about SQL Express 2014. So I installed it on my computer. I looked into SQL many years ago, but that was before Microsoft had a free version, and I certainly didn't have cash to buy the software.
I was wondering what a good beginner's book on SQL 2014 would be.
I want to mention that I took a course in Microsoft Access in the late 90's, so learning Access 2010 (the version I own), would be partly a refresher for me.
But as far as SQL, I haven't had any experience at all.
From what I've read, SQL Express should more than adequate for my needs.. especially since I'm wanting to learn SQL more than anything at this point in time.

Our Stairway series can help with T-SQL. We have a couple on that subject.

Books are good, and the one Jason recommended (recipes) is a format I like. Those are good for the programming side of things.

The administration side is separate. We have lots of articles here, but not terribly organized. I think the book I originally linked would be a good place to start. I "looked inside" as Amazon lets you do with many of its books, and looking at the table of contents, it assumes you even need directions on installing it. So a book can't get more basic than that.

This is a great beginner's book that will give you a good overview and leave you knowing something. It's available as ePub/Kindle as well as hard copy. Don Jones writes a good 'how to' book. http://www.manning.com/jones5/
