I HAVE AN SQL SERVER 2000 DATABASE WHICH I TAKE BACKUP EVERY DAY. HOWEVER A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO IT REPORTED THE LOGFILE WAS FULL AND I TOOK THE APPROPRIATE MEASURE TO FREE UP SPACE. NEVERHTLESS AFTER THAT I COULDN'T TAKE BACKUP AND WHEN I CHECK ON THE WINDOWS APPLICATION LOG I FOUND THIS ERROR MESSAGE
" couldn't clear 'DIFF' bitmap in database (Database name)due to error 9002. a subsequent backup operation may be slower/ larger than normal."
CAN ANYONE HELP ME WHY I COULDN'T TAKE BACKUP ?
THANKS

Error 9002 indicates transaction log filling up. Check this

Data backups and log backups are differnet. IF you are in full or bulk logged recovery mode, you need to be sure you back up the log as well as the data. (BACKUP DATABASE and BACKUP LOG commands). This gives you recoverability and clears out the log.
If you run in simple mode (not recommended for production), you do not need to do the log backups.

Did you run out of disk space on the volume? You might have to truncate the log then do some DB shrinking to free up some room.
And like Steve said, don't run in Simple Recovery Mode if you don't have to.
Also, posting messages in all caps is poor etiquette and is considered shouting. It's definitely hard on the eyes.
