My hardware guy just asked me about SQL running on Celerons.
The scenario is this:
A part of our organization (a health club) has a client database (small growth, little traffic). Their systems are maintain through outsourcing but our department provides the hardware. Our standard configuration for PCs has 2+Gig Celeron processors with about a Gig of RAM. The vendors who are putting in the database say that SQL doesn't run well on Celerons and he requires a Pentium IV.
I told my hardware guy the vendor was full of poop. The hardware guy wants a more official answer. Does anyone hear know of any difficulty that occurs when SQL runs on a Celeron processor?

I ran SQL on my laptop for over two years with a celeron processor and never had a stitch of trouble.

A Health Club client database on a 2gig Celeron? Sounds to me like you've overspec'ed the hardware. I run SQL on a 1.7big Celeron for all internal purposes, plus the occasional loading of substantial client databases for performance tuning. Hasn't missed a beat.
I think the vendor is full of poop.... officially
