Upgrading a production SQL 7 (SP2) box to SP4. (No problems with the test upgrade)
Rebooted the server to ensure a clean startup prior to backups etc.
Started the upgrade. Everything seemed to be going fine (MDAC etc upgraded etc) but then the server is sitting there is the 'server upgrading message'. Both CPUs are sitting at 50% (the _INS5176 process).
The SQLSP log file was last updated 1.5 hours ago (no errors and the same process as the test log files), but looking in the sql7/logs directory I have a ReplExcept.log file which shows that the snapshot.exe caused an exception and stack dumped.
The _INS5176 process is still running. SQL server is up and the version numbers are fine etc.
Any ideas people (before I have to uninstall and go back to SP2)

Sorted. For those who are interested.
Well I started the sql server (after the forementioned process had been running for 8 hours)
detached the user databases
stopped sqlserver
killed the upgrade process
rebooted the server
the mssearch dlls were registered
everything seemed fine!
rerun the setup.bat which them prompted me to continue - which I did. The process finished.
I rebooted again, and reapplied the service pack again.
Then reattached the user databases and tested.

I plan to take a detailed look at both sets of log files sometime soon. If there are points worth mentioning I'll post them.
