SQL 2K Enterprise version in W2K server standard

  • Does anyone have any experience installing SQL 2000 enterprise version in a W2000 standard server version?

I need to know if this is possible, if so, if the server has 4 Gbytes of RAM, will a standard versoin of W2K server utilize the 4 Gbytes of RAM and so will SQL 2000 enterprise version?

If I need to turn on some switches for the above setup to utilize the 4 Gbytes of RAM, is it safe to do it in a live PROD server?

My situation is our SQL 2K is a standard version running on a regular W2K server (not an advance server version) and it can only use up to 2 Gbytes of RAM. We like to add 2 more Gbytes but the configuration won't work and we don't want to reinstall everything from scratch.

  • Enterprise Edition can be installed in Windows 2000 Server. In order to allow SQL Server 2000 to use more than 2GB memory, you have to add /3GB switch in boot.ini file that allocates 1GB for system and 3GB for the applications. We have this kind of installation in multiple servers with any problems.
