Installed Express, needing to test some inhouse apps. Running apps against express installed on my workstation work. change it to run against the server express and it fails to connect. investigated some stuff. SMSS from my workstation can not connect. SMSS on server connect. ran sql config manager and there are NO protocols showing. tried to right click and add or whatever but it is not an option. I can't add anything to it. not even an alias, all disabled.

I can not enable tcpip because it is not there. i tried to add an alias and went to new alias but again everything was disabled. so i do not have any ability to enable tcpip nor add an alias.
My question is does 2022 Express allow for remote connections (yes it is checked). i have uninstalled it and then did the right click as administrator run install again. still same thing no tcpip/aliases available.
It is on the same domain network as i can RDP to server and i can ping it from my workstation. i can copy files from and to the server directly.
there is no tcpip/aliases available. does 2022 Express support this or should i see about getting a licensed version of MSSQL and bypass network testing and hope it works?

There is a start-up parameter that needs to be enabled for the Express version to enable the TCP/IP connections, cannot remember what that option is, but this should guide you to the right path to the solution.
😎
If you are doing development, use the developer version, all options are available there.

thank you for that.
not sure what got it working but i uninstalled express then installed a dev version verified a connection and that it was working with my app. so i then uninstalled the dev version and re-installed express and then everything worked. i wanted to use the express version just in case any clinets/users have the express version for just a simple database that is needed.
again thank you all very much.
