SQL 2016 and cloud compatibility

  • Friends,

I was doing a bit of research about how we SQL Server works in various cloud solutions.

I am sure SQL Server works on a VM created on Azure, AWS(EC2), VMWare Cloud Air(private cloud).

I am not very sure of we can create a VM on google and IBM cloud and install SQL Server in it.

The next question all together is, SQL Server has a PaaS Plugin in Azure as we all know.

I dont think we have it on AWS. How about SQL Server as a PaaS on other cloud vendors?

  • Would it not simply be better to install a VM in Azure and run the database from there? Other Cloud platforms IMHO will simply add a layer of complexity that you don't really need or want.....

Is it your aim to virtualise the OS and database or do you want to keep some of it on premises?
