Can we access SQL server 2008 server using SQL server 2005 management studio [without installing any sql 2008 client] ? If yes, what will be the downfalls ?

you can connect only if you install cumulative update to SQL Server 2005 SP2

It will connect and view but you can't manage it. for example modifing a table gives this
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------
Unspecified error
(MS Visual Database Tools)
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
CodeOn

You can access , but not manage , backward compatabilty .
Surely if you have SQL 2008 , why not install SQL 2008 management tools?
Or replace the central server management tools to have SQL 2008 instead of SQL 2005
Peace
Matt
