SQL 2008 R2 not connect to default instance

  I installed SQL 2008 R2 on Windows server enterprise 2008 r2

  trying to connect with SQL management studio I am not able to connect to the default instance but I can connect to local

  I am really new to data base

  somebody will help me on this?

  What are you using to connect?

  Are you connecting from the server or from a remote PC?

  What is the error message you are getting?

  SQL server manager it is not showing default instance after st time It asked for connecting to Local 10.*.*.*

  in local I have all default database but not the original default mssqllserver
