Can i install the sql server management studio on my machine which is a 32 bit xp from a sql server 2008 R2 64 bit set up ?

Yes, as far as I know the SQL Server 2008 R2 media contains both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

While the tools are typically 32 bit, the installation package in the x64 version won't install onto a 32 bit operating system. Every DVD I've seen has had all 3 versions (ia64, x64, x86), so just run setup from the x86 folder.

yes i was able to install using the x86 option in the options section.Thanks to all of you guys for your replies.
