Hi,
Does anyone know if its possible to skip that the SQL installation (or is it the .Net Framework setup itself) tries to download .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 media from internet. None of our servers are connected to internet and after several failed attempts, the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 media included with SQL installation is used..
Regards
Mike

The .net 3.5 sp1 is a preq for 2008, you could try to install .net 3.5 sp1 before running the sql set up.

I downloaded and installed SQL Server 2008 the day of RTM last year and .NET 3.5 was required .NET 3.5 SP1 was not required but that was before SQL Server 2008 SP1. That said you can download and install the .NET framework from your network with a switch if you need the switch post again and I will find it for you.

The .Net 3.5 media should be included in your SQL install media, except to Express Edition.
Whenever I have done a SQL install with FineBuild, the install time has hardly varied regardless of if the server is connected to the internet. This is probably because FineBuild applies SQL 2008 SP1 after the main SQL install is complete, which means that the .Net 3.5 media is all that is needed for the initial SQL install, and therefore nothing needs to be downloaded.

Thanks for the replies!
I think I have read somewhere that there are a switch to the framework installation that skips checking the internet for updated media.. But since it´s the SQL installation running the .Net framework setup I dont know if its possible to change the behaviour.
Everything works fine, but it would have been great to save some time when installing, waiting for framework setup to give up internet and go on installing.. 🙂
