  a. Is IIS required to install and use SQL server 2008/2008 R2? If so, which version?

  b. The database engine is really what is needed per the requirements. The application is also on the same server. This is also something that is requirement, but, the app doesn't put noticeable load on the server. In any case, I was not sure if we actually need to install IIS before we installed SQL Server 2008.

  IIS is no pre-requisite for SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2.
