SQL 2005 - when the databses are dropped why the maintenance plan doesn't pick up the changes

  • Hi,

In SQl 2005 when the databses are dropped why the maintenance plan doesn't pick up the changes

Scenario is we had dropped 4 databses from the SQL server thought the backup maintenace plan will pick it up automatically but started getting alerts for Trasnaction log backup failures. when investigated maintenace history the error we got is

'One or more selected databases no longer exist on server'

Anyone had smiliar experinces? or is it a bug?

    Thanks

  • This behavior is by design. To overcome this issue, you can select "All Databases" or "User databases" while creating the maintenance plan.

  • Thanks but I had to distribute backups on diffrent drives because of the space issue on single drive so I really cant select all the datbases to backup on the same drive.

  • In that case you need to Open the maintenance plan and click on Save to update the MP to use the existing databases.

Other option is to use a custom script for backing up databases.
