When I run the upgrade advisor on two servers ( one has some dts packages, no metadata packages and the other has neither), I get a warning regarding metadata packages not supported and a need to move them to the MSDB. The advisor also reports that one object is affected:
Source Type: MSDB
Package Location: ServerName
Instances: 1
Is this a general message that will appear regardless of the existence of metadata packages? I see no metadata packages on either server that it is reporting on??
Thanks

It is a general message. I get it every time I run Upgrade Advisor and I've never stored packages in Meta Data Services. As you noted, it also displays on servers with no packages at all.

That is supposed to be for packages stored in metadata services instead of the regular msdb location. It could be a generic error appearing because of something else with DTS. I know that any script tasks will cause a warning.

Since there are no dts packages at all in one case what could then drive this warning?
Thanks
