SQL 2005 Stress Testing

    I need to find out how I can stress test or what tools I can use to stress test an SQL Server 2005 Engine. I've had a case with one of my installation which is currently very small but I had around 20 people trying to pull data for a report preview during a training session. I dont expect the report to be viewed at the same time by over 4-5 people and tests with that number of people seem to be fine... It still creeps me out to think what will happen once the live data starts to get in because the database will definately grow rapidly. I basically need to stress test and to simulate running with heavy loads like 30-40 users.

    Installation : Windows Server 2003, SQL 2005 RTM + SP1, 512MB Ram HP Proliant G4, 73.6 GB SCSI... Clients are running Windows XP SP2, Report is Crystal Reports embedded in VB6 App.

    Ani - first of all, NICE avatar!  Makes me wanna crank up some "Roll Out" by Ludacris...  unfortunately, my best days of "rolling out" are behind me. 

    In addition to many 3rd party stress testing tools on the market that you can spend oodles of corporate dollars on (just do a Google search), I found this article some time ago, implemented bits and pieces, and it worked well:

    Try playing around with it...  Also, if you've got a SQL Reporting Services installation, it's not too hard to throw together a chained report or something wacky you can fire off to send your system into the gutter.

    Agilist has a stress testing tool that supports 2005, SQL Stress Test -- http://www.agilist.com.  Its a commercial tool but was priced right -- it did what I needed.

    Quest has a stress testing tool too, Benchmark Factory, I would imagine it supports 2005 -- it seemed to have some decent features but it was a little out of my price range though!  http://www.quest.com

    If you're really trying to do something on the cheap I've come across some .net code on the web too, but didn't have time to play around and tweak.  If your crafty and have time I'm sure you can find it.
