has anybody in this SQL forum any experience with the following config:
SQL 2005 std.edition 64 bit on Windows Server 2008 std. 64 bit ?
Are the any cathes - special considerations to knopw about?
is this a safe SQL design?

What do you mean "safe?"
It works, more and more people running 64-bit every day. There are issues with some subsystems (SQLMail, SSIS), where things could have issues moving to 64-bit. Some things weren't designed to move, but most of the basic services work the same.

make sure that any 3rd party ODBC drivers you intend to use are 64-bit.
You can install 32bit drivers on Win64 (odbcad32.exe)..but SQL64 will not be able to use them.

Have not yet done any setup with Windows Server 2008.
We do have SQL 2005 x64 on WS2003 x64. Works great.
The more you are prepared, the less you need it.

I believe the question is no so much about 64 bit SQL. The question as I read it: is running an older version of SQL (SQL 2005) on the newer OS (Win2008 R2) stable or recommended? Has anyone seen any issues or nuances with the build that people have experienced?
