Here is my scenario with an eventual failure on the SP3 update for Reporting Services with ERROR 29528.
We have 2 instances on the same server:
1) SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (our main databases)
2) SQL Server 2005/RTC Express (i believe a reporting server)
Just before xmas we installed the latest Security update from Microsoft under SP2 but had a failure on Reporting Services only. Everything else seemed to work.
Last night we installed SP3 on both the Express and Standard edition instances.
1) Express SP3 update worked 100% on all components using the express download.
2) Standard SP3 worked on all components EXCEPT Reporting Services using the x86 download.
Please note: Installation of .NET 3.5 SP1 framework was also successful during this update process. Does this have something to do with the error perhaps?
I need help to solve this error and get my Reporting Services back up and running.
Refer to the attached summary.txt file from the SP3 update.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not a database administrator, nor an expert with asp.net but i think our server runs a Windows 2003 64 bit O/S, however i think all application software including SQL Server 2005 standard is running 32 bit.
One of these articles mentions updating IIS 6.0 from 32 bit into 64 bit mode, but i have no idea what sort of impacts this will have to our many websites that connect to this box, not to mention a number of other minor software packages we have installed on this machine.
Since it is a production server i'm sceptical to even try this and also cannot replicate on our development machine.
Does anyone know if Reporting Services under SP3 and the new version of .NET 3.5 SP1 have anything to do with upgrading IIS? If so then why would microsoft not mention this in their release notes?
I have also heard that Reporting Services may need to be manually upgraded via the Reporting Services Configuration Tool? Can anyone tell me if this is different than the actual SP3 package?
Starting to get really confused on which direction to go????
