Do you need to run a Service Pack upgrade over any named instances of SQL Server, apart from the default instance?

Generally, you would patch all instances at the exact same time. If you have a multi-instance server it lets you select which instances to apply the patches to.

Thanks for the response - yes all instances were selected when I used SP3, but for some reason my SP2 only selected the default? Hence the confusion.
