I have had to attempt installation of Standard Ed. a couple of times and each time the installation takes well over an hour, once close to two hours. Nothin else is loaded or running on this machine, What gives?

Wait for the service pack update :D.
What's the problem with this duration? Maybe de-select some of the components to be installed. If you only need a OLTP database server do not install SSRS, SSIS, SSMS, ...

about the elapsed time as I see.It is a big install.
Have you copied the software local to your machine or installing over the network? Are you installing every single feature? you can save time by only installing what you will actually use.

The reason for the install is to install Profiler. I'm running XP and had just the Express Ed. My first attempt did not include SKUUPGRADE=1 so I basically sat there for about two hours for nothing, no profiler. Now I'm attempting it again and it's been going for over two hours. My whole day is shot and my boss is breathing down my neck because I was out a couple of days, no fun....

If you only need the profiler do not install the server components and (if possible) do not install the BOL. I'm currently not able to try an SQL Server installation but if possible unselect the BOL, they may take the most time of installation.
