Does any one knows why the SCC is running like forever and the sql server 2005 installation never finishes? There's never any fail msg seen.
I am trying to install sql server 2005 express with advance services on an machine with AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU. Does that not Pentium III - compatible CPU and failed the H/W requirement in the beginning and thus stop the SCC from running the full installation?
In addition, my machine WinXP only has 255MB of ram and 60G of free HD space shouldn't be really matter according to the hardware requirement web pages from MS, should it?
I had been running the installation for almost 24hrs+. I am hoping to get some insight whether this (sql server 2005) will work on my machine at all. thank you. [Wink]

Have you checked the installation log file at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG

Hi Manu,
yes i did check the LOG and LOG/Files folders nothing unusual. in the SQLSetup0008_Machine_SCC (my 8th attempt), all callback function lines return TRUE. And the last line is as follow:
Processing article DriveWriteAccess
Openning namespace \\root\cimv2
GetNamespace \\root\cimv2 returned 0 (0x0)
Scc Error: 0 (0x0)
Error code: 0 (0x0)
Calling callback function for reason: 0x4
Callback function returned TRUE
Processing article COMPlus
The time that it was last modified was the same time that I ran the setup. that means the SCC did not write anything at all in the last 23hr59min the SCC never saved any log file?! the only things that the setup ever installed were the support files and the native clients program. What log file(s) am I supposed to look into and at what lines? thanks

Is distributed transaction coordinator (MSDTC) service started on your machine?
Check the com+ applications on the machine-->my computer (Control panel\administrative tools\Componant services\Computers\My Computer\Com+ Applications).

UH OH... it's not completely started. it's running forever too!
i see the following in the event viewer however:
warning in COM+>>
The CRM log file was originally created on a computer with a different name. It has been updated with the name of the current computer. If this warning appears when the computer name has been changed then no further action is required.
error in MSDTS>>
MS DTC log file not found. After ensuring that all Resource Managers coordinated by MS DTC have no indoubt transactions, please run msdtc -resetlog to create the log file.
MS DTC Transaction Manager start failed. LogInit returned error 0x2.
what is going on? is it another installation piece before I install the sql2k5? is it something made by MS?

Is your CPU the same as listed at -->http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/35f3f460-9168-401f-bca5-16536b6ad7fe/

No mine is AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU. unless it's using the same stepping that I don't know of. I tried a few different thing including turning off anti-virus and releasing IP and using Local Service account. I'd already trie 3 times and nothing worked so far. When looking at KBase at MS help and support, article ID:920114 does not seem to apply to my system at all. Well, the thing is under properties dialog box, there is no security tab for XP at all...
So, I can't say for sure that Athlon XP is bad listed for SQL2k5.
