Is anyone know how long does it take to install SQL2005 on Win 2003 server? It seems to take a long time as it configuring components: Installing local groups, and setting file security.
First I thought it got hung up, so I canceled the process. I does the same the second time.

The installation would take between 25-40 min, depending on your machine hardware; then you would need to patch it. If you calcelled a previous installation then you might have problems with registry corruption, depending which point of setup you cancelled. Take a look first into control panel -> add remove programs and, if sql is there, try to uninstall it.
good luck

Thanks for the response. I have removed all SQL components installed previously and try again. It always very slow when it tried to install Local groups and setting File security. This is a brand new server in company domain. According to the help file, the install will create several SQL groups. I am not sure if it should create in a local machine or in Domain server. I used high previllege user domain to install SQL; however, this user cannot have the right to create groups in Domain. BTW, SQL 2005 is not very friendly comparing to SQL 2000.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks all folks, my first experience of SQL 2005 installation went fine. Yesterday I reinstalled it again and let it cooked overnight, and it came back nice this morning. It seems like SQL 2005 takes a lot longer time than I expect. It also created 5 SQLServer Groups in the local machine.
