We did inplace upgrade from Sqlserevr 2000 to 2005 but database compatibility mode 80. still we can use new data types? or we have to change compatibility mode 90 then only we can use new data types ?

Change the mode to 90 so that you can get a full features available else you will be limited using the sql 2005 features.
