SQl 2005 64 bit ODBC settings

  • I am ready to begin installing 64 bit sql 2005 on 64 bit windows 2003 enterprise edition. When that is completed, I will need to connect Windows XP clients to that server via ODBC.

Will I have to use the 64 bit SQL 2005 odbc drivers or will 32 bit suffice?

    Thanks.

  • I am assuming you are referencing the client machines. In that case you can use whatever is appropriate for the client and the application.. A 64-bit server does not require all clients to be 64-bit. Also, I'm not entirely sure about 64-bit ODBC driver availability..

As an aside, I would STRONGLY recommend moving from ODBC.

  • Thanks. I agree about the ODBC but we are running a legacy app on that server. Before I retire I may see a replacement for it.
