Hi all!
I have a customer who is running SQL Server 2000 32bit (x86) on a Windows Server 2003 64bit (x64) (they updated Windows recently, but not SQL). They are already encountering severe performance issues, e.g. the SQL Server seems to "freeze" once in a while, sometimes long response times etc..
Well, despite my recommendations to either downgrade Windows to 32bit or upgrade SQL to 64bit, they see no need to change the current setup.
I googled already a lot, but I did not find any (semi-)official statement which either supports my or their point of view.
Maybe some of you could link me to some documents, articles regarding PRO & CONTRA of such a scenario?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Cheers,
Jörg

You have to upgrade the SQL Server to 2005 because SQL Server 2000 64bits will not install in the current operating system because it comes in only Itanium 64 and it comes without Enterprise manager. So you have to get the person to see the benefits of upgrade.
You could install SQL Serve 2008 Express which is free but comes in x64 that could get the person to upgrade.
