Hello
I have some questions about upgrades.
We are gooing to upgrade a production sql cluster
Servers have win 2003 sp1 and sql 2000 Enterprise edition.
When we started this they wanted to get up to 2005 Enterprise ed, however after some research we found
that enterprise isn't needed so they would like to skip the extra cost of ent edition.
We will start with windows patches, after that we will do the sql upgrade.
Are there any known upgrade issues with the editions (std-ent) ?
Any hints / tips or experienses would be helpful.
Regards
Kenneth

if you have the extra disk resources i personally would prefer a clean install to the cluster

Here is the next best option you can look at: if you have more than 4Gb Physical RAM on your New SQL Server then:
Get Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition and SQL Server 2005 Stanard Edition as SQl server 2005 Standard will use all the available RAM as shown in under windows 2003 Enterprise Edition which sould be 32GB etc.. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx#physical_memory_limits_windows_server_2003
This configuration worked best for us.. we upgraded from windows standard edition to enterprise but are still at SQL standard edition...
and regarding .. it would be best if you can do a clean install which will be much easier and faster approach and less issues while the upgrade.

also you should go to ssis because M$ isn't going to support the DTS from 2000 anymore, they're just dropping all support entirely after 08. #1 in customer support!
