SQL 2000 standby versus 2005 mirror

  • In SQL 2000 for a standby server, I would just start SQL in single user mode, restore master (permissions), msdb (jobs, DTS packages), user dbs and rename the server to the machine that failed. I would then be off and running.

    I believe with mirroring, I'd have to update logins etc.. on the mirror when I update them on the principal manually? I only add logins maybe once a month or so. DTS are probably similar and relatively simple exports / imports.

  • In the case of database mirroring once the principal failovers to mirror server you need to sync and recreate the logins by using SSIS to transfer the syslogins table and restoring it and synch it using sp_change_users_login
