Hi
We have an ERP program running on SQL 2000 databases. This ERP program has a weak reporting tool, so I need reporting services urgently. Seen it, used, liked it.
But I'm not sure wether I need an offical licence of this company. They tell me it's an runtime version of SQL server.
Can I get a product version of reporting services ?
Thanx for the reply !

Not sure what you mean by "runtime version" or "product version", but Reporting Services can be obtained from Microsoft and is 'free' to use with an existing SQL Server license. See this FAQ for more info: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/reporting/howtobuy/faq.asp

Runtime version like in Acces Runtime.
Not a 'full program' but enough to run the application.
Kind regards.

From that description it sounds like MSDE, the desktop edition of SQL Server. Have you actually got Reporting Services installed on your SQL Server? If so, then it is the full version of SQL Server, since RS cannot be installed on MSDE.
Can you execute the following in SQL Server and paste the results here?
SELECT @@VERSION

This is the result :
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86) Dec 17 2002 14:22:05 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

You are using Standard Edition of SQL Server. The following URL shows the supportive versions to run Reporting Server. Yes. Standard Edition supports it.
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/reporting/productinfo/sysreqs.asp
I am sure XX.760 is SP3 enabled it.
You should download the Reporting Services from the below URL
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/reporting/downloads/default.asp
Keep in mind, you can't take PDF file from the outpput. It supports either Txt or CSV for export.
Good Luck

Ok, I'm confused, I must be using a special version of Reporting Services because I have reports coming out in PDF, Excel, HTML and CSV. I also have a couple of graphs that get distributed as TIFF's. Amazing

What Phil means is 'point and click' here http://www.microsoft.com/sql/reporting/productinfo/features.asp to see that other than scalability and security extensions, the only thing knobled is data-driven subscriptions...

If you have an MSDN subscription you can download it, otherwise you contact your local MSft software supplier (be it microsoft or a reseller or distributor). If you're still in the eval phase you could download the eval version but I'm not sure if you can 'upgrade' this afterwards.

If you're running the eval version, then you can "upgrade" to the licensed version by just installing over the top. If the eval expires, best option is to uninstall before installing licensed version. Have heard some horror stories about people corrupting the Report Server by doing that.
