Hi all.
Hope you can offer some advice got a bit of strange one here. I am trying to connect to a SQL server 2000 SP4 from within my EM on my machine. I am unable to do so , and have conducted a number of test which I will detail below.
* I can ping remote server
* I can telnet to remote on SQL port
* I can RDP to server ( SQL is running on that server)
* I can view server details in MMC Snap in console from my machine
* I can connect to SQL 2000 on remote machine via SSMS
* I can connect to SQL 2005 named instance on that machine via SSMS
* I have an application that connects to the remote server and that works fine.
However....
I can not register the server in my SQL 2000 EM on my machine. I have checked client alias's etc but nothing exists ( or have ever existed)
I can see the SQL 2000 server in my EM as the server name , with the normal green connected Icon , but not with the (Windows NT) details following the server name.
I have tried SQL connections and they also fail.
Nothing in event logs , nothing in SQL error logs...
baffled !
Can anyone offer any advice on where to look , or what the issue could be.
Many thanks.

Check your servers authentication mode? Also make sure your login exists on the server you are trying to connect. I would say a login by your name under SQL authentication mode
Thanks!!
