I am about to schedule the above exam and was thinking of buying the corresponding Transcender to help me prepare. Has anyone gone along a similar route, because I need to know if it is worth buying - how closely does the Transcensder map to the exam?

Paul

Hi Paul,
Havent used the SQL 2000 Transcender but thought I'd throw my bit in anyway! I've never heard anyone complain about them, I just find them a bit pricey:-) I have used RapidAssess.com and they have good questions, $59 for 10 uses online.

I used the MeasureUp for the SQL 7 Design exam. It was ok. I've used Transceders for NT 4 exams and they are good, but as a last minute prep tool, not a study or learn tool.

Hey Paul, I hope you do/did well with the exam. Let everyone know how you did please and what the exam entailed. I also am writing an exam soon, SQL 2000 database design and implementation, which has been a tough battle to say the least! I've read the mcse training kit several times and I've done the measure-ups (which I personally found to be a good preperation tool) but by no means a study tool. So I think I'm ready as I hope you are.Good luck and I'll be sure to post how I faired with the 70-229 exam.
Thanks

What do you mean "write the SQL DBA exam?" The exam from MS is already written. You would take the exam I assume.
There are sample questions in most books and in any of the test prep tools, but disclosing actual questions from the exam is unethical and would revoke someone's certification.
If you'd like to ask for "types" of questions, that is acceptable.

Try http://www.cramsession.com for a good study guide of what you need to know. I think they also have a signup list for a question of the day. There are a lot of sites that do this.

Experience works best. Make sure you understand the concepts and could explain them to someone else.

I used the Transcender and found it to be an excellent investment. If you can pass one of their tests, you're almost guaranteed to pass the real thing. The Transcender ones were much more difficult than the actual admin test. Good luck!

I thought the data warehouse test was one of hardest tests I've ever taken. It had questions that were 2 pages long with each answer being a page long. I rather have an enema from some 95 year old nurse named Helga than take that test again.

Thanks for all your help, advice, encouragement etc. I'm happy to say that I did the exam last week and passed first time with a score of 877. This is the third part of my mcdba, although I'm in two minds about bothering with the win 2k server one. My direct preparation for this exam lasted 2 months - a few evenings a week and the occasional Saturday. I started with a thorough reading of the Sybex MCSE SQL 2000 book which I found a good basis and I then wanted some test practice and purchased a 30 day license ($60) from http://www.measureup.com. Incidentally, this is a portal for the same site as http://www.rapidassess.com, but on the latter you are limited in site visits rather than time and as I wanted to come and go many times, the former policy was best. Although I learned loads of useful things for everyday DBA work, I was still a bit nervous about taking the actual exam and decided to buy the Transcender (another $180).
After this much investment I was happy to find that when I did the real exam the Transcender questions proved to be spot on, and (unusually!) similar to the actual test questions. I might have just got a pass without the Transcender, but it definitely helped me on some obscure areas which appeared on the exam and not in any other preparation material. Anyway, good luck to anyone else who tries this exam and if you need advice on question areas (sorry, but I agree with the moderator about non-disclosure of actual question details) then drop me a line.

hey! once you're ready, i would hop over to mcsebraindumps.com. The price is right and info is readily available to help you assess your readiness to take the exam.
