Specific Error 5(0x5)

    Hi,

    Have a SQL 2005 Instance that fails to start with error -

    SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with service specific error 5(0x5)

    Anybody seen this before/have any ideas what may be causing it. Not much on Google, but still looking!

    Hi,

    If I were you'd i'd start by looking at the error logs in the Log directory for your SQL instance. I'm sure there'll be some useful information in there.

    Mine are located here:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG

    Yours may be located elsewhere depending on your installation.

    have to compressed any of your hard disks?
