A nice little diversion from the norm, with respect to QOTDs. Luckily, my oldest daughter is in college (home for the summer) and knew the answer (and was actually awake!), earning me 1 point - woohoo.

Found answer after some googling. But, this is not related to SQL Server right?

This is related to SQL Server in that a geoid is used as part of the basis for spatial modeling in SQL Server 2008

I think it is more related to science then SQL server. When i need to do some spatial modelling i think i will have a scientist close by ๐

If you deal with GIS, mapping or geocoding you will be running into more spatial terms. More applications are incorporating these features, so it's not a bad thing to know a bit more.
