SP4 on default instance only and not named instance?

  • We have 2 SQL applications. MS CRM 1.2 uses the default instance and a portfolio management system uses a named instance.

We are planning our upgrade to CRM 3 which requires SQL SP4. However the vendor for our portfolio management software reports problems with SP4. We currently have SP3a on both instances.

What issues are there if I install SP4 in the default instance but not the named instance?

    Thanks.

  • None. The instances don't have to match. However, you will need a way to keep track of the SP levels for each instance for future upgrades.
