SP3 - Installation Successfull - Error - Please Help !!

  • I have installed SP3 on a sql server 2005 64 bit standard edition. After rebooting the server, all the databases were online and i did not see any error in the error log. I also see SP3 is installed, however when i look in the log folder is saw this error

"Error Description : MSP Error: 29537 SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Internal Query Processor Error: The query processor could not produce a query plan. For more information, contact Customer Support Services..

To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again."

Can someone please tell me what this error is? I did not see any error in my error logs and i also see sp3 installed..Do i need to worry about something here? Please advice. Thanks

  • Any ideas?

  • Please look for any errors messages in the log files located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG

  • Pradeep thanks for the reply. The error which i have posted is from the log folder. Thanks

  • Looking at the error message already posted, the error seems like while applying some of the scripts during the installation of Service Pack, it is failing. I think the binaries have already been updated.

To make sense of this error message, you need to have a look at the messages prior to this error message in the error log. You may be able to track down which script was not properly applied to the instance.

  • Script? No sql-script was applied at all while installing sql updates. However could it be possible some process was accessing sql right when i was installing SP3?

  • The Service Pack copies new binaries and replaces the existing ones. After that is done, it executes certain scripts to update the system dbs/objects.

Really? I didnt know that. So i am assuming im OK for now. What do you say?

You can extract the SQL Service pack binary and you will find several scripts.

Since the Instance is working fine, those errors might not be related to the "core" SQL Server operations. It would be better to scan through the setup logs for any errors, so that surprises can be avoided later.
