SP3 and stand alone reports server

  • Hi All,

    First post ever.

I am learning SQL Server DBA on the fly having been roped into the task which was not part of my job description 😎

Anyway I have searched the forums for this but have not as yet found a similar question so I thought I would post the question whilst I kept searching.

I have a plain vanilla sqlserver 2005 env which i want to patch to SP3. I have patched the dev and uat envs and all seems to have gone OK. However to my suprise I have found that there are separate standalone reports servers. ( There is no documentation on this site ).

Do I need to also patch the reports servers as well to SP3 at the same time. Does it need to be patched at all and if so can I do it at a later stage?

    Thanks

  • Hi John,

    Welcome to the forums.

If you have separate servers running SQL Server Reporting Services then yes, these will need to have SP3 installed on them too.

Not sure if you will see an explosion if you don't patch them at exactly the same time as the database server where the ReportServer database resides, but I believe that it is recommended to keep the patch levels the same in a distributed Reporting Services architecture.

    Good luck.
